Folks transitioning may pursue a variety of gender-affirming care options, one of which is hormone replacement therapy (HRT). These injections require sterile syringes and other supplies that are not always covered by health benefits. 4B Harm Reduction Society was started to amplify the marginalized voices of those facing stigmatization while trying to access services and support. We are privileged to have the platform and network of support that we do. It is our responsibility to use these resources, such as our access to some of the supplies commonly used in HRT, to help our community in any way we can.
Starting in February of 2023, we will be able to give up to 6 months' worth of gear to someone who is not able to afford it on their own. These kits (made up of syringes/needle tips, alcohol swabs, and a sharps container) will be mailed in discrete packaging. Included will also be an educational handout on 2S/LGBTQIA+ pharmacies and the safe disposal of sharps. Individuals can fill out a form (found below) and a volunteer will pack/ship their kit within a few days. A meet-up in the Edmonton area can be arranged for those with a more urgent request (in need of supplies in two weeks or less) or in cases where a package could put safety at risk (ie. being outed).
Are you injecting hormones and in need of syringes, needle tips, sharps container or other supplies?
Fill out this form and a volunteer will be in-touch. We can mail you up to six months’ worth of gear, free of cost. Don’t see the type of syringes you use? Let us know in the form and we will do our best to get our hands on them for you!
Our GoFundMe supports providing these supplies to folks pursuing HRT free of cost. Funds will go primarily towards shipping (Approximately $20/kit) but may also be used to purchase syringes and other gear, such as larger sharps containers that 4BHRS does not already have on hand.
