What is "Outreach"?
“Community outreach” involves providing services of a specific expertise, to a group of people who may not otherwise have access to those services. In the case of 4BHRS, we provide harm reduction, first aid, and overdose response and prevention resources to those in need, and usually outside of the typical operating hours of government funded services with similar focuses. We do our best to access harder to reach areas of the city, and target more secluded and vulnerable populations to make sure they are getting access to the care they might need.
The idea of meeting people where they are and walking alongside them through their journey is the core of harm reduction. Through a trauma-informed approach, we provide non-judgmental support to those that have often felt cast aside. People who use drugs (PWUD) and houseless people are often forced to hide away from populated areas, due to the stigma and harassment they may face. It is important that we understand and approach these situations with respect and understanding.
We value our community connections and the privacy of those we're able to interact with, and hold those interactions close to our hearts. Our approach is one that involves radical acceptance, trauma-informed, person-centered care, and anti-oppressive care.

And if you don't have any experience but want to learn, please reach out as well! 4BHRS prioritizes appropriate training including proper naloxone use and drug poisoning response, education on safer use supplies, and more!
We highly encourage folks to have their First Aid Certificate as well, but that is not required.
